Kentucky State Capitol – Frankfort, Kentucky
Stull Woodworks had the exciting opportunity to play a part in preserving a little bit of Kentucky history. Through Midwest Maintenance Inc., Stull Woodworks received the contract to restore and refurbish 135 mahogany desks in both the senate and the house of representatives rooms at the Kentucky State Capitol building. All the desks were brought back to the shop and each one was meticulously reviewed to determine the best step forward. From there, parts and pieces were replaced as needed and the desks were prepared for refinishing by Brian Bros. Painting & Restoration. Stull Woodworks installation teams also made multiple trips to the Kentucky State Capitol to repair and refurbish the speaker’s benches, podiums, and counsel tables on site. This project was completed in the span of about one year. Through the process, Stull Woodworks team members found signatures on different areas of each desk, some dating back to 1910, making this historically accurate restoration a high priority for each person. After the care and attention by Stull Woodworks staff, these desks are now ready for another 100 years of use.
