This week we started a new project of rebuilding three, 10 foot tall columns for a mansion in Texas! We first made a layout to determine the size of pieces we would need to form the column.

Our columns are getting made from 4 inch thick by 10 inch wide cedar and yes it makes our shop smell great!

The wood then goes through a machining process and we end up with a bunch of small tapered pieces that will be glued up to make the round column.

Here we are in the process of "dry fitting" the column pieces together, just to make sure everything is ready to go so we can glue up the column. After it is glued up, well start machining the outside of the column to give it its final shape.
